AutoCAD software has now moved beyond being simply a powerful but generic 2D and 3D drafting and modeling tool, but many companies are still not fully aware of to what extent or what additional productivity they can drive within their businesses with the right CAD software investment.
With the release of AutoCAD 2020, Autodesk raised the bar even higher with the introduction of One AutoCAD with specialized toolsets.
We’re all eager for 2020 to be over already, and Autodesk is helping us all pretend by announcing the release of AutoCAD 2021 new features.
The latest version of AutoCAD adds a few new tools, enhancements, and integrations that Autodesk claims will immediately boost productivity. Let’s take a look at what’s new in AutoCAD 2021.
AutoCAD 2021 New Features One of the highlights of AutoCAD 2021 is the new Drawing History feature, which shows users all the changes made to their drawings over time.
Users can also compare two versions in the context of the current drawing.
The other big addition to AutoCAD 2021 is a new integration with Google Drive. This allows users to open DWG files from Google Drive directly in the AutoCAD web or mobile app, and save the DWGs back to Google Drive once they’re finished.
Users can do the same directly from DWG attachments in Gmail. Enhancements in AutoCAD 2021. Autodesk has also improved several existing features for the new version of AutoCAD.
The DWG Compare feature now supports external references (Xrefs) attached to drawings.
Xref Compare will automatically notify users if a referenced drawing has changed, and users can compare the changes in the context of their current drawing.
AutoCAD 2021 also improves the Blocks palette, letting users sync recent blocks to cloud storage for access from the web or desktop.
The new Libraries tab (formerly the Other Drawings tab) shows users their five most recently used block libraries for quick access.
AutoCAD 2021 New Features Performance
Finally, Autodesk says that AutoCAD 2021 boosts graphics performance with multi-core processors providing faster pan, zoom, and orbit in both 2D and 3D. AutoCAD subscribers can download AutoCAD 2021 new features as of today.
On April 3, Autodesk will release AutoCAD 2021 for Mac with Xref Compare, Purge improvements, a floating command line, and Simplified Chinese language support. You can read more about AutoCAD 2021 on Autodesk.com.
Autodesk also recently announced that it will help businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic (i.e., all businesses) with a temporary Extended Access Program for select cloud products including AutoCAD web and mobile.
We’re all eager for 2020 to be over already, and Autodesk is helping us all pretend by announcing the release of AutoCAD 2021. We’re concerned that it makes Autodesk come across as a bit insensitive, and we certainly aren’t trying to pretend or make light of the situation at hand.
As Andrew [Anagnost, Autodesk CEO] recently mentioned in his ADSK News post, our priority remains the health and well-being of our employees, customers, and partners.
What are AutoCAD 2021’s new features with specialized toolsets?
Traditionally Autodesk has released different versions of the software for different market sectors, however, One AutoCAD now offers even greater value for money as it now includes specialized toolsets that give users access to specific industry-focused functionality and libraries in a single subscription.
These tools deliver further productivity improvements over and above normal AutoCAD and are all encompassed within the familiar AutoCAD interface.
Each toolset is designed to address many of the traditional bottlenecks facing specific industry sectors including automation of tedious manual tasks, industry calculators, industry-specific and customizable content, and also automated scheduling and material take-off functionalities to mention a few.
Work more productively with industry-specific toolsets for architecture, mechanical design, 3D mapping, and more.
Speed up work with industry-specific features and libraries for architecture, mechanical design, mapping, and more.
Complete design tasks in a fraction when you use industry-specific toolsets included with AutoCAD.
Architecture Toolset
Speed up your architectural drawing with the automation of sections, elevations, floorplans, scheduling, and documentation tasks with the Architecture Toolset.
For users yet to make a move to Autodesk Revit, this toolset adds an extra dimension to your productivity with its industry-focused design features and a massive library featuring more than 8000 intelligent architectural objects.
Mechanical Toolset
AutoCAD’s Mechanical toolset is a must-have for any user involved in manufacturing, product, and mechanical design who is not yet ready to move to digital prototyping software such as Autodesk Inventor.
The Mechanical toolset will enable users to experience substantial productivity gains through the use of its plethora of mechanical design features. Such as design automation of machine components, advanced bill of material functionality, and access to a substantial library of over 700,000 intelligent parts and symbols. Which helps you get your products to market faster than ever using intelligent design tools.
Electrical Toolset
If you are involved in the electrical design of control systems. Then you will benefit from exceptional productivity gains as this toolset gives you access to over 65000 intelligent electrical symbols as well as a host of tools.
Specially designed to massively boost productivity in the creation, modification, and documentation of schematics, control panels, and other electrical design tasks.
MEP Toolset
Building services design covers a multitude of different tasks. Many of these can be difficult to consolidate and very time-consuming to undertake using standard 2D and 3D functionality.
The MEP toolset helps you to speed up the traditional time-consuming design, drafting, and building services documentation tasks. Featuring over 10000 intelligent mechanical, electric, plumbing, and HVAC objects, designing and documenting building services systems is far more productive.
Plant 3D Toolset
The Plant toolset is a collection of specialized tools to aid Plant design and associated documentation and drawing production. Simplify piping design, utilize specialist P&ID functionality, speed up modeling with parametric equipment definitions and structural models, and generate piping isometrics and orthographic drawings with this exceptionally powerful plant design toolset.
Map 3D Toolset
The Map 3D toolset is designed to help you utilize and maintain CAD and GIS data to support planning, design, and data management. While enabling access to multiple external data sources. The toolset’s powerful functionality also enables you to combine essential information in your AutoCAD design and automate workflows.

Raster Design Toolset
The Raster Design toolset delivers major advantages to anyone. That needs to work with raster data, legacy data from scanned paper drawings, or where re-drawing is simply not a productive or viable option.
Raster Design gives users maximum flexibility with a set of tools. That enables you to convert raster to vector/.dwg or even to directly manipulate raster entities from within AutoCAD for a smooth and efficient workflow.
