First, I will try to give a brief description of toughened glass. What kind of material is it, what are its pros and cons, and where is it used the most? Then, I will give the different rates of different thicknesses below.

What is toughened Glass?

Toughened glass, or tempered glass, is an extreme and durable type of safety glass. It’s made by heating regular glass to high temperatures and then quickly cooling it, making it much tougher than normal glass and less likely to break.

Even if it does shatter, it crumbles into small, harmless pieces, making it a safer choice for windows, doors, and even smartphones.

Following are the different thicknesses of toughened glass prices in Nepal:

ThicknessPrice (per square foot)
8 mmNPR 1000 – 1200
10 mmNPR 1200 – 1400
12 mmNPR 1300 – 1400
12 mmNPR 1400-1550 (Coloured)

These prices vary depending on suppliers and additional customization like colored or laminated glass. Toughened glass is widely used for doors, windows, partitions, and facades due to its enhanced strength and safety features.

Advantages of Toughened Glass:

Following are the advantages of Toughened glass

  • Stronger than regular glass, up to four to five times.
  • It breaks into small, blunt pieces, reducing injury risk.
  • It can withstand high temperatures and thermal stress.
  • Used in high-traffic or high-impact areas for safety.
  • Ideal for both interior and exterior architectural designs.
  • Highly resistant to scratches and wear.
  • Offers increased security for doors, windows, and facades.
  • Available in various types like frosted, tinted, and laminated.
  • Reduces noise when laminated for soundproofing.
  • Suitable for large glass structures due to its strength.
  • Provides a sleek, modern aesthetic for buildings and interiors.
  • It has low maintenance and is easy to clean, retaining clarity over time.

Disadvantages of Toughened Glass

  • Difficult to cut or modify after toughening
  • More expensive than regular glass due to the heat treatment process.
  • It can shatter spontaneously due to imperfections like nickel sulfide inclusions.
  • Shatters into small pieces, which, while less dangerous, can still be inconvenient to clean up.
  • Not ideal for all applications where flexibility or bending is needed.
  • Improper installation or binding can increase the risk of breakage.
  • Susceptible to thermal stress in extreme temperature changes.
  • Difficult to modify once tempered, requiring precise measurements beforehand.
  • Does not provide as much sound insulation as laminated glass.
  • Can be more reflective, leading to glare in certain lighting conditions.
  • Weak points can emerge if the surface is scratched or damaged.
  • Customization options are limited compared to regular glass.

Uses of Toughened Glass

Here are the uses of toughened glass in Nepal. Toughened glass prices are varied due to the use of glass to maintain standards:
